For Holmby Hills, the nearest place to stroll, eat and see art is Westwood Village and the UCLA campus beside it. On Saturday, October 10, Westwood's fall season gets its main opening events within the same nine hours. Oktoberfest takes over Broxton Plaza in the afternoon. The Fowler Museum opens a major exhibition of Māori art. The Hammer Museum holds a free evening party for its four fall exhibitions, three of which opened in September, and Akram Khan Company takes the stage at Royce Hall that night.
One construction schedule shapes the whole day. Metro closes eastbound Wilshire Boulevard between Gayley Avenue and Westwood Boulevard every Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastbound is the way back toward Holmby Hills. So the afternoon events sit inside the closure window, and the evening events begin after the road has reopened.
The 3 p.m. line on Wilshire
The closure supports work on the Wilshire Boulevard entrances to the future Westwood/UCLA station, including drilling for an elevator casing at the southeast entrance. Under Metro's construction notice, all westbound lanes stay open. Eastbound drivers are sent north to Santa Monica Boulevard by way of Sepulveda Boulevard or Veteran Avenue, then back down Westwood Boulevard to Wilshire. On weekends the closure runs from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the notice says it continues through December 31.
Walkers face a related limit. The north Wilshire sidewalk between Gayley and Westwood has been closed since August 17 and is scheduled to stay closed through December 31. Metro will close the south side at times as well, and when both sides are closed together, pedestrians are detoured onto Lindbrook Avenue. A separate notice for the station site allows intermittent closures of westbound Wilshire, the Wilshire and Gayley crosswalks, turn pockets and the Wilshire and Westwood intersection, on weekdays and weekends, through September 24, 2027. Metro's notices also say construction schedules are subject to change.
There is no football traffic to add on top. UCLA plays at Oregon on October 10 at 12:30 p.m. Pacific, so there is no home game at the Rose Bowl that day.

Before 3 p.m.: Broxton Plaza and the campus
Both afternoon events are north of Wilshire, away from the work zone. Oktoberfest returns for its second year with German-inspired food, beer, live music, vendors and games. It takes place on Broxton Plaza, the car-free block of Broxton Avenue between Kinross and Weyburn that the Westwood Village Improvement Association runs as a space for walking, dining and events. It starts at 1 p.m., two hours before eastbound Wilshire reopens.
The Fowler's 2 to 4:30 p.m. program opens Uhengaparaoa, Taonga Tuku Iho: Ancestral Gifts and Contemporary Māori Art, a collaborative exhibition. Anyone who wants a quieter visit can come back Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m., when Fowler curators lead a walk-through.
The Village has some newer places to eat between events. Raising Cane's opened its Westwood restaurant on July 13 at 10946 Weyburn Avenue, at Broxton, a few steps from the plaza. Daily Bruin reported its hours as 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The Melt is open at 931 Westwood Boulevard for dine-in, pickup and delivery, and the company's own page says it opened there in 2026.
After 3 p.m.: the evening on Wilshire
The Hammer's Fall Exhibitions Celebration starts at 8 p.m., five hours after eastbound Wilshire reopens. Galleries stay open late, DJ Shay Elys plays in the courtyard, and food and drink are for sale all night. The party is free and open to the public. The party celebrates two major retrospectives, Huguette Caland: A Life in a Few Lines and Mavis Pusey: Mobile Images, plus new Hammer Projects by Vibeke Mascini and Gê Viana.
Of the four, only Pusey is new to the public that weekend, with a run from October 11, 2026, to February 28, 2027. Caland has been on view since September 27 and closes the same day as Pusey. Gê Viana opened September 19 and runs through February 7, and Mascini opened September 12 and runs through January 17.
According to the Hammer's event page, an RSVP helps the museum estimate attendance but does not guarantee entry. Admission is first come, first served, and members get priority entry. Museum parking is limited and costs a flat $9. Overflow event parking is at UCLA Lot 36, 11020 Kinross Avenue, entered from Kinross between Gayley and Veteran, one block from the museum. The Hammer also encourages guests to bike, take transit or use ride-share. Lot 36 is north of Wilshire, so guests parking there can reach the museum without walking along the closed north sidewalk between Gayley and Westwood.
At the same hour on the campus side, CAP UCLA presents Akram Khan Company's Thikra: Night of Remembering at Royce Hall at 8 p.m. The Royce performance and the Hammer party start at the same time, so a single evening cannot include both from the start. The Hammer shows stay up through winter, while Thikra is listed for this one night.
What has not opened yet
Several Village openings in the news are still pending, so no plans for the 10th should depend on them.
- Viet Pham's restaurant at The Cinemas. Pham, a James Beard Award-nominated chef, is opening a restaurant inside The Cinemas, the upscale theater in the former iPic space. SFGate described it in August as a Pretty Bird Hot Chicken outpost due in late September. Daily Bruin's September 18 interview called it a separate concept from his Utah-based Pretty Bird and still spoke of the opening as upcoming. We have found no confirmed opening date.
- Boichik Bagels at 911 Westwood Boulevard. WhatNow reported in September that the shop was preparing to open, with no date announced.
- Corner Bakery Cafe. The Westwood location has closed permanently, Brentwood News reported on September 24.
The same split repeats through December
October 10 is the first Saturday of the fall season to run on this schedule, and it will not be the last, because Metro's weekend closure continues through year-end. On Saturday, November 21, Felipe Baeza's Anima opens at the Hammer and runs through April 4, 2027. Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan performs Blue Hour / Beckoning: A Double Bill at Royce Hall at 8 p.m. that night, well after the 3 p.m. reopening. Saturday, December 12, follows the afternoon pattern instead. Holiday Village, the free holiday market at Broxton Plaza, runs from noon to 5 p.m., so its first three hours fall inside the closure window.
The lane closures are temporary. Metro's September 2026 schedule forecasts that Section 3 of the D Line, which includes the Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/VA Hospital stations, will begin operating in Fall 2027. Section 2, with the Beverly Drive and Century City stations, is forecast for Spring 2027. Section 1 opened on May 8, 2026, with stations at La Brea, Fairfax and La Cienega. Metro notes that the later dates are subject to change. Until the Westwood station opens, the 3 p.m. reopening of eastbound Wilshire will continue to set the order of a Westwood Saturday.
The Westwood/UCLA station work will affect how Holmby Hills connects to the rest of the Westside for the next year. DeWalt Meneses Group tracks these changes block by block for the owners we represent. If you want to talk through what the D Line timeline could mean for your property, Partner With Our Expert Team.
