West Hollywood's Halloween Carnaval Lasts Five Hours. Its Street Closures Start at Midnight.

The City of West Hollywood's Halloween Carnaval returns this Saturday, October 31. It is free, it runs from 6 to 11 p.m., and it fills the mile of Santa Monica Boulevard between N. Doheny Drive and N. La Cienega Boulevard. There will be a DJ stage at San Vicente and a line of food trucks.

The city's own schedule runs much longer. Street closures begin a minute after midnight on Saturday, and the last street reopens no later than 7 a.m. Sunday. Two city parking lots close even earlier. One has been shut since Monday, and the other closes Friday morning. If you live within a few blocks of the boulevard, your Halloween runs on that 30-hour street clock. Friday night and the Sunset Strip sit outside it.

The street clock starts at 12:01 a.m.

Here are the city's published closures, in the order they take effect, starting with the two lots that close before the streets do.

  1. Monday, October 26: The Crescent Heights Lot closes. It stays closed through Wednesday, November 4, so it was already shut before this week's planning began.

  2. Friday, October 30, 5 a.m.: The Plummer Park South Lot closes, according to the city's October 5 release, and stays closed until 8 a.m. Sunday.

  3. Saturday, 12:01 a.m.: N. San Vicente Boulevard closes between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, along with the alleys beside it. West Hollywood Park closes at the same time, including the small and large dog parks and the basketball courts.

  4. Saturday, 5 a.m.: The Library Garage closes. The West Hollywood Park Five-Story Parking Structure is closed all day Saturday.

  5. Saturday, 7 a.m.: These streets close:

    • N. San Vicente from Santa Monica Boulevard north to Cynthia Street
    • Robertson Boulevard from Santa Monica Boulevard to Melrose Avenue
    • La Peer Drive and Almont Drive where they meet Santa Monica Boulevard
  6. Saturday, 10 a.m.: Santa Monica Boulevard closes from Croft Avenue and Holloway Drive to La Cienega, and from La Cienega to Doheny. La Cienega closes between Holloway and Melrose. On Sunset Boulevard, the turn lanes onto southbound La Cienega close in both directions.

  7. Saturday, 11 a.m.: Residential permit parking restrictions are lifted citywide.

  8. Saturday, noon: Santa Monica Boulevard between La Cienega and Doheny must be completely clear of vehicles.

The city also says barricades will go up on side streets next to Santa Monica Boulevard before 10 a.m. A car parked south of the boulevard on Saturday morning can get boxed in well before the official closure time.

Things reopen in stages on Sunday. The boulevard, La Cienega, Robertson and the 7 a.m. streets reopen by 6 a.m. N. San Vicente between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue reopens no later than 7 a.m., and the park, the Five-Story structure and the Library Garage reopen at 7 a.m. Plummer Park South Lot reopens at 8 a.m. The Crescent Heights Lot stays closed until Wednesday, November 4.

Your side of the boulevard decides your Saturday

The closures fall unevenly across the city. They land hardest on the blocks between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose, west of La Cienega. San Vicente has the longest closure of any street on the list, and it runs right through that pocket. Robertson closes over the same stretch.

La Peer and Almont are handled differently. The city closes only their intersections with Santa Monica Boulevard and keeps local access open from Melrose Avenue. If you live on either street, you can still reach home by car on Saturday, as long as you come in from the south.

This year's street closures also start earlier than last year's. In 2025, the city listed San Vicente north to Cynthia and Robertson as closing at 10 a.m. This year both close at 7 a.m. The event itself has not grown. It has the same one-mile footprint, the same 6-to-11 window and the same DJ stage at San Vicente as 2025, but setup now claims three more hours of the morning.

The park closure means a change of plans for dog owners. Both dog parks at West Hollywood Park close at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and reopen at 7 a.m. Sunday. That covers a full Saturday of morning and evening walks.

From 11 a.m., your permit street is open to everyone

Lifting permit restrictions solves a problem for visitors. For residents it creates a new one. From 11 a.m. Saturday until noon Sunday, any car can park on a permit-only block anywhere in West Hollywood. At the same time, the city's own parking near the event is closed: the Five-Story structure, the Library Garage, the Crescent Heights Lot and the Plummer Park South Lot. That leaves the curb as the main option for a crowd the city expects to reach tens of thousands of people.

The Plummer Park closure reaches past the event footprint. Plummer Park is on the city's east side, far from the Doheny-to-La Cienega mile, but its south lot closes on Friday morning, a full day before the Carnaval opens. If your Saturday errands depend on driving and parking, the window before 11 a.m. is the one to protect.

The city runs a Halloween shuttle. Metro posts its own changes.

On October 31, the city suspends regular PickUp and Cityline service. In their place it runs a free combined route called the WeHo Halloween Ride. It travels along Santa Monica Boulevard from N. La Brea Avenue to N. Kings Road from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Some of the vehicles also run to and from the Hollywood/Highland Metro B Line station from 6 p.m. to midnight.

The ride map is posted on the city's Halloween page. For Metro buses, the city lists lines 4, 10, 30/330, 105, 212/312, 217 and 218 as serving West Hollywood. It refers riders to metro.net for route changes caused by the closures. If you ride one of those lines, check Metro before Saturday morning.

The usable Halloween is on Friday and on Sunset

If the boulevard is closed from mid-morning Saturday, the open parts of Halloween weekend are the evenings and streets outside that window. Sunset Boulevard stays open on Saturday. The only closures there are the turn lanes onto southbound La Cienega. Two Sunset properties have scheduled Halloween parties on that stretch, and Friday has events of its own.

Night Venue Event Hours Listed price
Fri, Oct 30 Micky's, 8857 Santa Monica Blvd. Horror Drag Show 8–10 p.m. $10 general admission, $30 VIP

Sat, Oct 31 Riot House at Andaz West Hollywood, 8401 Sunset Blvd. Love In This Club: Heroes vs. Villains 9 p.m.–2 a.m. Ticket and table tiers

Both White Rabbit nights are 21 and over, encourage costumes, and take table and cabana reservations by email through The Valorian's calendar. The Riot House party is a Lifestyle Group event listed on Posh, not an announcement from the hotel itself.

Micky's sits inside the closed stretch. Its Halloween Pass covers entry from day through night until 4 a.m. Sunday, plus an after-hours event, front-of-line access and re-entry. The wristband has to be picked up at the bar during Halloween week. As this post goes live on Thursday, that leaves two days to pick it up.

When the Carnaval ends at 11 p.m., WEHO Times reports that The Abbey and The Chapel will host after-parties with dancing across several rooms, DJs and costume contests.

City Hall also helped make room for these smaller events. The city offered fee waivers on special event permits, encroachment permits and basic Los Angeles County Fire Department site plan reviews. They apply to business Halloween events held from Friday, October 23 through Sunday, November 1. In other words, the city set up a ten-day window for bars, restaurants, hotels and venues to host Halloween events, beyond the one night on Santa Monica Boulevard.

What you can carry past the barricades

If you plan to walk out to the boulevard on Saturday night, the city and the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station list these rules:

  • No alcohol on the route and no drinking in public
  • No backpacks, camera cases or tote bags; clear plastic bags are allowed
  • No weapons, fireworks or drones
  • Young children and pets are strongly discouraged

These numbers are worth saving before Saturday:

  • West Hollywood Sheriff's Station, 24/7: (310) 855-8850. Call 911 in an emergency.
  • The city's Security Ambassador Hotline, free by phone or text, 24/7: (323) 848-6500.
  • Text "halloween" to (323) 848-5000 for the city's SMS updates through the night.

Santa Monica Boulevard reopens by 6 a.m. Sunday, and Plummer Park South Lot reopens at 8 a.m. Permit parking restrictions return at noon. The Crescent Heights Lot stays closed through Wednesday, November 4.
